My most memorable moment from the German occupation
When the Germans entered Poland, hard times ensued. The most memorable moment for me was when 20 people were shot near my house. It happened before noon. Two German cars brought 20 people. The gendarmes lined them up in rows of ten and killed them with machine guns. Then they took a few people from our street to dig a grave for the murdered. The women decorated the grave with flowers. When I looked in that direction in the evening, I saw a candle flickering on the grave. I felt something akin to grief and fear.
