Warsaw, 20 September 1949. A member of the Main Commission for the Investigation of German Crimes in Poland, Irena Skonieczna (MA), interviewed the person named below as an unsworn witness. Having been advised of the criminal liability for making false declarations, the witness testified as follows:

When the Warsaw Uprising broke out, I was in my shop at Marszałkowska Street 22. On 1 August 1944 at around 5.00 p.m., when the shooting started, a detachment of Gestapo men burst into the shop. They placed my refrigerator in the doorway and started firing from behind it, ordering me to leave the shop. The next day the Germans ordered all of the residents of our house to move to the bunker in the house at no. 20 Marszałkowska Street. There we stayed, 72 of us in all, until 12 August. In the first days of the Uprising I saw that the houses on the opposite side of Marszałkowska Street were burning. I heard, but I no longer remember from whom, that at the beginning of the Uprising the residents of the houses at nos. 9 and 15 Marszałkowska Street had also been taken to aleja Szucha. On 12 August Germans entered our tenement and ordered the population to take a few things and walk out into the street within 20 minutes; once there, we were arranged in fours. A German escort led us along Rakowiecka Street and from there around the allotments to the highway, which we went along until we came to the carpenter’s shop at Okęcie. From there, some of the people were transported to the transit camp in Pruszków, while the others – insofar as was possible – dispersed in Okęcie.
