My most memorable moment from the occupation

We were in Wólka Bachańska when the Germans resettled us to Garbatka. Those who had a horse and cart put their things on it and left. My dad was caught in one of the roundups, and we did not have any vehicle to transport our things during the resettlement. Mom asked several farmers to take my sister and brother along with a small bundle of sheets. But they refused, saying that they had a lot of relatives and not enough horses. We were about to stay, but two German gendarmes came and drove us away on foot. Mom started crying and begging them, saying that my little sister and brother did not have good shoes, and it was very cold then. But the gendarmes replied that they did not care.
