My most memorable moment from the German occupation

Our days in German captivity were hard. The terror was particularly horrible in Warsaw. Posters announcing the execution of hostages were put up almost every day. Innocent men were killed simply for being true Poles. Daily manhunts and executions in the streets of Warsaw forced Poles to revolt openly. On 1 August 1944, the uprising broke out. We spent several weeks in terrible agony, amidst the constant bombardment of houses. We stayed in cellars – without light or water – for weeks on end. When Warsaw surrendered, the Germans began to deport all residents to Pruszków, from where they sent them to various concentration camps. My dad and I made it to Końskie, where we managed to escape.
