Uhlan Stanisław Babicz, born in 1906, farmer, married.
On 10 February [1940] my family and I were arrested by the Soviet authorities. After the arrest, we were sent to Kazakhstan to Semipalatinskaya [the Semipalatinsk Oblast].
I worked in a gold mine, for which I received 115 rubles a month. The working conditions were very harsh.
I did receive some news from Poland. In May 1940, we were allowed to write. I received letters from my sister and some parcels. During the transport, we were kept in the wagons for three days, without anything to eat—for singing Polish songs.
After the amnesty, we left Kazakhstan for Tashkyekoy [Tashkent Oblast]. The Polish authorities stopped us and we joined the Polish transport. This transport was sent back to the NKVD, who gave us work on collective farms (Tashkent Oblast) in December 1941. In July, I joined the Polish army in Guzary [Guzor].
