1. Date and place of execution:
From 4 September 1939 to 13 January 1945.
2. Type of execution (shooting, hanging, etc.):
Shooting (apart from what happened in the ghetto).
3. Personal data of the murdered victims:
Poles, Jews, foreigners: Poles and Jews.
How many people were murdered and where were they brought from?
In the above-specified period the Germans shot approx. 60 Poles and 70 Jews in Chmielnik. The victims were both residents of the town and people brought from other locations.
Surname, age, occupation, address:
Of Poles: Stanisław Grusiecki, farmer; Małgorzata Chmielewska, laborer, 64 years old; Jan Ślusarski, shoemaker, 52 years old; Jan Białowąs, 56 years old, and others.
Of Jews: Chaim Wolf Moszkowicz, carpenter, 24 years old; Berek Trombecki; Joel Unger; merchants and others.
4. Is it known what the victims were accused of, whether the execution was carried out in retaliation, etc.?
The reasons for the execution remain unknown and they were not disclosed to the public.
5. Who carried out the execution (gendarmes, Gestapo men, SS men, policemen, the Wehrmacht)?
The executions were carried out by gendarmes, Gestapo men and SS men.
6. Are the surnames of the perpetrators known (provide the surnames if known)?
Unknown.
7. Were the corpses burnt or destroyed otherwise?
The corpses were buried both in the old Roman Catholic cemetery and the Jewish cemetery.
8. Where were the corpses buried (provide the exact location)?
As above (see 7): in the old Roman Catholic cemetery and the Jewish cemetery.
9. Description of the place of burial (graves, dimensions, estimated number of victims buried in one grave):
It is very difficult to provide a precise answer, as the corpses were often buried at night.
10. Were the corpses exhumed, were they officially reinterred (report)? If “yes” to the latter, then where?
The bodies of the Jewish victims were not exhumed.
11. Are there any grounds for conducting their exhumation in the future?
Presently it would be difficult to conduct an exhumation on account of problems with determining the nationality of the victims.
On 29 October 1945, the contents of the above questionnaire were officially confirmed by the mayor of the town of Chmielnik, Stefan Dąbski, with the Municipal Court in Chmielnik.
