In May 1943, the Germans brought 20 hostages to Nowa Wieś, with the intention of hanging them – I was told so by one of the German torturers, who forced people from their flats and herded them to the execution site. I didn’t want to go, but when I was threatened with death, I complied. At the site I saw that the unfortunate souls were forced to dig pits. When the convicts built a gallows, 10 of them were placed under it, and the other ten had to fasten nooses around their necks. I don’t remember what happened next, as I couldn’t bear the sight and felt that I was going to be sick. When I came round, I saw that the executioners were ordering that the murdered people be loaded onto a car, and then they left in the direction of Kamyk.
