On 31 May 1947 in Zwoleń, the District Commission for the Investigation of German Crimes with its seat in Radom, this in the person of its member, Deputy Prosecutor J. Skarżyński, acting pursuant to Article 20 of the provisions introducing the Code of Criminal Procedure, interviewed the person mentioned hereunder as a witness, without taking an oath. The witness testified as follows:

On the morning of 17 May [19]44 the Gestapo arrested my husband, Zdzisław Romanowski. At the time, more than 15 people were detained in Zwoleń and the vicinity. He was incarcerated at Radom prison. On 19 June 1944, a mass execution took place in the market square in Zwoleń, at which I was present. My husband was in the first group of men who were led from the truck to be shot. He saw and recognized me, and called out in a lively voice: “Do not cry!”. A few moments later he and his companions were killed with shots to the back of the head. I walked behind the cart that took his body to near the cemetery.
His body – which I recognized – was exhumed in 1945. I don’t know why my husband was arrested and executed. I thought that it had something to do with him shirking work.
I don’t know whether my husband was a member of an organization fighting for Poland’s independence. I now have to provide for 2 children (currently aged 8 and 7). I don’t receive any benefits at all.
