STANISŁAWA GOTKOWICZ

Volunteer Stanisława Gotkowicz, a seamstress at Military Hospital no. 3, married, 27 years old.

On 12 April 1940 I was deported to Kazakhstan, to the Kostanay Oblast, where I was settled in a kolkhoz.

The living conditions and hygienic conditions were lamentable.

I was forced to work in the sewing workshop from 7.00 a.m. until 7.00 p.m. I received remuneration for my work.

The attitude of the Soviet authorities to us, Poles, was extremely hostile. They would often laugh in your face and say that we would never leave the steppe alive.

Medical care was very poor.

During my period of detention in the kolkhoz I managed to get in touch with my family.

I was released on the basis of the amnesty. On 12 November 1941, I left for the south. After crossing the Persian border in August 1942, I was accepted into the Polish Army in Tehran.
