11 May 1946. The Municipal Court in Opatów in the person of judge Al. Zalewski, with the participation of court reporter R. Cybulski, heard the person named below as a witness. Having been advised of the criminal liability for making false declarations and of the wording of Article 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and of the significance of the oath, the witness was sworn under Article 108 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and testified as follows:

In June 1944 – I don’t remember the exact date – the local SD chief, Schultz, was assassinated in the Market Square of Opatów. He was shot dead by three young people, who then took to flight, running in the direction of my house. I saw the whole incident from my field, where I was working at the time. At one point I saw one of the gendarmes – a young, tall and dark-haired man by the name of Alfred Biller – jump out from behind a cemetery wall. Shouting “stop” in Polish, he began to shoot at the fleeing men with his automatic pistol. The assassins fired back and continued their escape. Two of them made it, but the third one paid with his life.
